"Why not work with us?" asked another bee. "Because I don't want to," said Spencer (the bee who didn't want to work). "Why not?" asked the bee. "Because I think it's silly of you other bees to work so hard," he said. "Oh." Soon, the news was spread all around the hive, and all the bees had to have a big vote. The queen bee quieted everybody down, and they all agreed that whoever didn't work didn't get to eat the honey. Spencer had stopped eating for a month, until he couldn't stand it any longer. He didn't want to look dumb, just working and working and working all day, but he had to be able to eat. He asked the same bee that had asked him why he wasn't working yet, "What job can I get?" "I thought you didn't like to see us working, or do it yourself," he said. "W-w-well, I am also really, really hungry, because I haven't eaten in a month," said Spencer. "Okay, you can put away the honey when the other bees bring it to the storage room, if it's okay with the queen. They asked the queen if it was okay, and she said yes, so he finally got to eat when the bees got together for dinner.
