Lehi Leaves Jerusalem
Today I read in 1 Nephi 2:7-22, about when Lehi had been taught in a dream (from Heavenly Father) that he needed to leave Jerusalem, and tell the other people that they needed to leave, too. But they didn't listen. Lehi told his family about his dream, and they packed their tents and other things to survive, but left their gold and things like that at home, and had to leave jerusalem, into the wilderness. Laman, Lemuel, Sam, and Nephi were Lehi and Sariah's sons. They camped in a valley near a river after traveling for three days. Lehi prayed and said thank you to God for saving Lehi and his family from being destroyed. Lehi called the river Laman and the valley Lemuel. He wanted his two sons to be like the river and the valley, continually flowing to God and steadfastly keeping the commandments. Laman and Lemuel thought it was silly for Lehi to leave their home and their gold and silver. They didn't believe that Jerusalem was going to be destroyed. Nephi didn't understand the things that Lehi had seen. He prayed and asked if Lehi was doing the right things by leaving all their riches and going into the wilderness. Jesus visited Nephi and told him that Lehi was doing the right things. Nephi believed that his father had done the right things and didn't rebel like Laman and Lemuel did. Nephi told his brothers what he had done and seen. Laman and Lemuel didn't believe, but Sam believed. The Lord promised Nephi that he would be blessed because of his faith. He would become a leader over his brothers.
